    Birthday Bash/BBQ

    Hey all,

My Birthday is fast approaching (on 20th April), so I thought I should sort out some kind of lash in honour of me.

The date for the celebration of my life and achievements is Saturday, 17th April. The plan is to kick off at 7pm with a BBQ/ pre-match lash at mine (4, Harmsworth Street, Kennington SE17 3TJ).

At around 10.30pm, we will be whisked away to the tropical paradise that is Southern Pacific in Kennington. For those of you unfamiliar with its charms, it is a bamboo trimmed, beach themed palace of banter and is open until 3am. I feel safe in saying it occupies a unique place in London’s nightlife. There will then be post-match lash at mine for the survivors with the option of attending the Church in Kentish Town the next day (if Steve Crompton, also celebrating, has his evil way).

Friends, other halves and trained animals are welcome (especially helper monkeys, who will fit in well with the tropical theme). Hawaiian shirts and other beachwear are encouraged but not obligatory.

    Cheers,

    Phil ( AKA Mistake )

PS: there will be a vegetarian option- to bring your own food.

    LANCERS AMAIZING RACE

Southwark Lancers RFC brings you their inaugural amazing night race. It involves teams of two racing against the clock from London Bridge to Waterloo Stage Door taking in different sights and other destinations. Using clues and questions set up by the race organisers you would make your way along the river to the finish. All other rules will be explained at a meeting point to be finalised closer to the time. There would be a prize for the best named team and one for the best fancy dressed team although not compulsory plus other prizes will be up for grabs.

    When : 27 March 2010

    Time : 19H30

    Cost : £10 per team

RSVP : davidjapril@yahoo.co.uk with team details

    SPOOF NIGHT

Boys, the club have organised a Spoof evening on Thursday 18th March as a fund raising event.  It would be great to see as many of you come along as possible, bring friends and other halves etc.  You will be competing for the coveted City Spoof Champion title that is currently held by our own Will Groat.

It is a really easy game to play and is a lot of fun and includes copious beveraging.

I will be selling tickets this weekend (£10).

Venue is the Old Bank of England, 194 Fleet Street, London, EC4A 2LT.  First games will start at 19.00 so get down for about 18.30 as food will be served shortly after.

Lots of raffle prizes to be won.

    Christmas Party

Don’t forget, Christmas Party is the 19th December at the ‘Stage Door’ pub near Waterloo Station. Tickets on sale at training and through the Captains at weekends. Cost is £5 which includes food, partners are welcome, should be a very special day as it will be the first of the ‘new’ season and with a fair wind and a bit of luck the first day the clubs puts out 3 sides.

Lancers Day, very wet but a great success!

What a weekend, two matches won without having to a kick, pass or make a tackle, plus an amazing turnout for the first Lancers v Lancers club match, especially given the torrential down pour in preceding 24 hours! It is mind blowing to think how far we have come in 18 months as a club, and to be able to put out two sides to play each other was brilliant. It was also a really good opportunity to get used to playing in some wet and muddy conditions, which does not play into our natural game plan of quick flowing rugby. There were also lots of lessons we still need to learn, not least the ability make constructed phases of play under a game plan. Niall will no doubt be working on that over the next few weeks at training. Final score was 15 – 12, with the victors being the 2s forwards and 1s backs.

Man of the match awards went the two full-backs; Silent Bob (John Hehir) for amazing hands and kicking in the wet conditions and Patrick Jalloh who made three try saving tackles for the eventual victors.

Afterwards at the player meeting most improved player award went to Richard Black, the club player of the month went to Oli Donoghue for playing with a broken arm earlier on the season, mad fool!

Next week the 1s have an away friendly against Akeans who play in Kent 2 (the league we want to join next year) and the 2s have a re-arranged league match against Shooters Hill at home.

For your diary! The next monthly Lancers Day is 19th December, when we have our Christmas party for players and partners. Tickets will be £5, venue is the The Stage Door in Waterloo, time 7pm. There will be awards, half-way through the season reports etc. As the fixture list stands both teams will be away so we will all be able to converge together. There will be a smart dress code, likely to be black tie or club tie, tickets will go on sale this week, they are limited so you will need to get in quick!
