What a weekend, two matches won without having to a kick, pass or make a tackle, plus an amazing turnout for the first Lancers v Lancers club match, especially given the torrential down pour in preceding 24 hours! It is mind blowing to think how far we have come in 18 months as a club, and to be able to put out two sides to play each other was brilliant. It was also a really good opportunity to get used to playing in some wet and muddy conditions, which does not play into our natural game plan of quick flowing rugby. There were also lots of lessons we still need to learn, not least the ability make constructed phases of play under a game plan. Niall will no doubt be working on that over the next few weeks at training. Final score was 15 – 12, with the victors being the 2s forwards and 1s backs.
Man of the match awards went the two full-backs; Silent Bob (John Hehir) for amazing hands and kicking in the wet conditions and Patrick Jalloh who made three try saving tackles for the eventual victors.
Afterwards at the player meeting most improved player award went to Richard Black, the club player of the month went to Oli Donoghue for playing with a broken arm earlier on the season, mad fool!
Next week the 1s have an away friendly against Akeans who play in Kent 2 (the league we want to join next year) and the 2s have a re-arranged league match against Shooters Hill at home.
For your diary! The next monthly Lancers Day is 19th December, when we have our Christmas party for players and partners. Tickets will be £5, venue is the The Stage Door in Waterloo, time 7pm. There will be awards, half-way through the season reports etc. As the fixture list stands both teams will be away so we will all be able to converge together. There will be a smart dress code, likely to be black tie or club tie, tickets will go on sale this week, they are limited so you will need to get in quick!
